Bertrang financial campfire
Here is my campfire tonight.
I spent it in the company of my good friend and fellow Blufftoner, Mark Bertrang, although not in the actual flesh...
I played his audio newsletter, via the boombox in my jeep, as I enjoyed a peaceful campfire in the backyard, on a WARM November day! Accompanied only by my wife, my cat, and the redoubtable Mark, I whiled away a pleasant evening in the open air, recalling the Korean experience.
Mark did an admirable job of recapping the Korean experience: the beef intestine dinner was a highlight!!
Glad I missed it, as I was at the Italian restaurant... but then, I have always been rather Xenophobic, and somewhat unreceptive to alien cultures. BUT- I do admire MUCH of the Korean culture, and, like Mark, was glad to be given the chance to experience much of it's many wonders.
In fact, I LOVE much that I found in Korea! The only things I did not like too much are:
1. sitting on the floor (I am from a "chair culture". Also, I am old, and relatively inflexible)
2. Octopus and Squid ( I am from a "land-bound" culture, which includes very little seafood. And so, the more exotic varieties of seafood seem... uh, too EXOTIC for my plebian tastes!!
I am most comfortable with land animal flesh, vegetables grown on land, and fruits of the land raised variety.
Although, when, during the Jeju Island barbeque, they substituted OCTOPUS for pork, I naively assumed they had only substituted really, really tough pork, I ate it happily, thinking I was just a wimpy American.
I wasn't truly wimpy- I was just....
A Chair culture, Old, Land-bound, American who assumed that the rest of the world was just like me!
I tend to always think this, and I am always so surprise to find that I am wrong!
Good job Mark! You were good company tonight, (even though you weren't there), and even better when we sang and danced at the Onalaska Nursing Home!
