Old route memories
Yesterday, the La Crosse Tribune sent a photographer, Peter, to meet me on my old route.
I met him at the corner of Madison and 21st Street, where I usually ate my lunch. That corner is so deeply a part of my daily routine- I'd park there, do three long relays from the truck, and then sit there and eat my lunch, always with a book held in rubber bands on the steering wheel...
It was always my favorite time of the day!
But yesterday, I was sitting in my own personal jeep, in my uniform, and without any mail!
I kind of felt like a mailman imposter.
Then, Peter started shooting photos of me, looking mailman-ish...
"Step forward- turn to the side- put your hands in your pockets..." I felt a little like I was posing for GQ magazine- perhaps the "OLD MAILMAN FASHIONS" issue.
I wonder if I'll need a magnifying glass to see if it's really me in the paper?
No photos today, since we'll have one tomorrow in print- also tomorrow, I start my new route on French Island! What an adventure that will be!
